MOVIE NEWS – Vincent D’Onofrio returns as the Kingpin in Daredevil: Born Again, and the actor reminded viewers of just how brutal the Marvel villain can be. Of course, we’ll see how brutal it is, since this isn’t Netflix anymore, it’s Disney…
Daredevil: Born Again is over a year into production, so fans won’t be able to see the long-awaited return of the law enforcement officer for a while yet, but that hasn’t stopped Vincent D’Onofrio from talking about what’s in store for him as the Kingpin.
Daredevil was one of Marvel’s standout TV series on Netflix, all of which focused on “street” heroes. After the movies began to diverge from the TV series, fans worried that they would never see the two sides share the screen. Fortunately, fans saw the return of Charlie Cox in Spider-Man: No Return, and that was just the beginning.
Now that fans have both actors back, D’Onofrio reposted an important moment from the Daredevil series that shows the Kingpin in the back of a police car. In this scene, Kingpin gives a very metaphorical monologue in which he realizes that he is not the Good Samaritan he thought he was, but the embodiment of “bad intent”. This scene was right before his escape, so it could also be a metaphor on the actor’s part, hinting that the Kingpin will soon bring fury when he returns to the MCU. The set photos revealed that the Kingpin will get a new look in the upcoming Echo series.
Daredevil will also return in that series and in Spider-Man: New Year, but only time will tell what will become of him. One thing many fans are hoping for is a Spider-Man and Daredevil teaming up against the Kingpin in the live-action film, as it would be the perfect pairing to mimic what happened in the comics. There’s still no word on what will happen to the other Defenders, but many would love to see the return of Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Misty Knight, Colleen Wing, and the Punisher.
Hopefully fans and talent alike will get what they want, as Marvel has talent that has yet to be fully utilized. Many fans are hoping that the MCU will evolve into a live-action version of the comics, which would include the inclusion of the X-Men. Many would love to see the X-Men interact with Marvel’s big guns, but it looks like the X-Men may have their own saga.
Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus in spring 2024.
