Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy: Finally Arrived On Steam, With A Big Discount!

GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition’s Steam version is also Steam Deck verified!

More than a year after the disastrous original release, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is now available on Steam! Plus, just in case this fantastic game wasn’t tempting enough on its own – even my colleague V wrote a stellar review of it – it’s now on sale.

When the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy was released at the end of 2021, it was a complete mess, so much so that Rockstar not only apologised but re-released the old versions of the games included – Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City and San Andreas – and gave them away to anyone who bought the updated Definitive Edition.

The situation slowly improved as patches and updates came in. But one constant complaint was that it was only available on PC using Rockstar Games Launcher. This was more than a minor annoyance for many PC gamers. Especially since virtually all of Rockstar’s other games (except Midnight Club 2) are available on Steam.

This shortcoming has now been remedied: GTA Trilogy is now available to buy on Steam, along with Steam achievements and proof that the game is “playable” on Steam Ceiling. This is part of Rockstar’s publisher promotion, which runs until February 2.

Unfortunately, not everyone is happy with the situation. Other than the addition of achievements, it’s unknown how – or if – the trilogy has been updated for Steam.

Some fans on Twitter claim that the Steam version is unchanged from the patch released in October 2022, meaning it’s better than it was at launch but still not perfect.

User reviews are only just starting to come in on Steam. It isn’t easy to make a meaningful judgement at this stage. However, the reviews seem to be primarily positive. One GTA: San Andreas user review mentioned controller support, Steam achievements and the addition of “stable 60 fps”. But it still disliked it because “the Steam community should not be treated as an afterthought”.
