Marvel’s Spider-Man is one of the most popular games on PlayStation, and ahead of the release of Spider-Man 2, a new trailer for the upcoming release appears to have surfaced online.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the sequel to the original Spider-Man game released in 2018 for PS4 and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which will be released on PS5 in late 2020.
Both games proved to be huge successes, with the original Spider-Man title selling over 33 million copies (as of May 2022).
Miles Morales had a similar impact, helping to launch the PlayStation 5 successfully, despite the console’s production struggles due to deficiencies affecting the production of next-gen consoles.
But now, a new trailer has surfaced that further adds to the hype for the next installment in the fan-favorite PlayStation franchise, further hinting at a release later this year.
A new trailer has surfaced online for the highly anticipated PS5 Spider-Man 2. It appears to be official, as it aired on ESPN sometime on Sunday, but has yet to appear on Sony or PlayStation’s legitimate channels.
You can watch the trailer below:
The recording was released in Australia and indicates a “Spring 2023” release. Since the Southern Hemisphere (where Australia is located) welcomes spring around September and November, this seemingly confirms that the game will be released in the second half of 2023.
The sneak peek shows a brief glimpse of Spider-Man Peter Parker and Miles Morales in a live-action fictional new show.
A Tale of Two Spider-Men
While there was some opportunity to play Miles Morales in the original Spider-Man, that was before he got his wall-climbing abilities. It wasn’t until 2020 that players could finally rock New York as the iconic Brooklyn hero.
When the PlayStation 5 launched in late 2020, Spider-Man: Miles Morales was a shorter entry in the franchise and a sequel to the original game. Peter Parker took a back seat as Miles stepped in as New York’s new Spider-Man.
In Spider-Man 2, it appears that players will be able to rock the role of Peter and his protégé in New York, calling on the unique talents of each of them.
As players know, Miles’ bio-electricity is a powerful force as he can store and release vast amounts of energy at will, and will certainly complement Peter’s years of battlefield experience.
It’s also going to be awesome that the duo can hang out together outside of the first two games.
With this new trailer, Sony is undoubtedly gearing up for marketing. If the game is anything like its predecessors, fans will be in for a treat and will be one to watch at the 2023 Game Awards.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is reportedly set for release in late 2023.
