Chad Stahelski Has Spoken About The Ghost Of Tsushima Adaptation!

MOVIE NEWS – Chad Stahelski is actively working on the long-awaited Ghost of Tsushima project, but there’s still a long way to go.

After directing every episode of John Wick and having done a great job in the action film world with a fourth instalment coming soon, Chad Stahelski is now preparing for one of the biggest challenges of his career. He is set to make a film based on one of the most popular PlayStation games, Ghost of Tsushima!

Scheduled for release in 2021, development on the film is steadily moving forward. He has also confirmed that filming will take place in Japan with a cast of the same nationality.

TotalFilm (via Slashfilm) recently had the chance to speak to the director during the promotion of John Wick 4, and he gave us some details on the current status of Ghost of Tsushima:

“Ghost of Tsushima would be my favorite to do next. Without going into crazy detail, it’s something I’m super-interested in. We have a really great script. We have a really good creative team behind it. It’s just about getting all the business end of things locked in. It’s kind of in that little bit of flux where everybody is trying to tighten up the deal to get everything going, and to make sure we do the best with it. It’s simple: getting a great script and starting to put together a cast. It just takes a lot of moving parts.”

Although this sounds like bad news, Stahelski also gave some hope to fans waiting for the film:

“Obviously, Ghost is a special project. Everybody realizes it. Everybody wants to do it, with the introduction of new technologies and a new way to do the epic samurai vibe […] There’s just a lot of things to put together before we really pull the trigger on making it, mostly from my side creatively. And we’re in that process right now, trying to pull everything together so we knock it out of the park.”

Ghost of Tsushima is a story-driven action-adventure game with open world, combat and stealth elements, loosely based on historical events.

The story is set in 1274 on the island of Tsushima. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades, wreaking havoc and conquering Tsushima. Defeating almost all the Samurai stationed on Tsushima Island. As one of the last surviving samurai, Jin Sakai rises from the ashes to fight back with the help of his allies…
