Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Voice Actors Talk About Venom

The voice actors of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are teasing the upcoming game’s apparent antagonist in a series of cryptic tweets that foreshadow what’s to come.

The voice actors of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 hype up the game’s apparent antagonist, Venom, in a series of cryptic tweets. The actors didn’t reveal much about the game beyond that the character “rules”. It’s one of several teases that actors, specifically Tony Todd, have dropped on Twitter about the role of Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 over the years.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was officially set to premiere in 2021, following the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The trailer itself contained a few surprises for fans, showing the two characters fighting side-by-side. Kraven, the hunter, narrated the trailer and hinted that he will be hunting the title characters as they give him a worthy hunt. However, the last frame of the trailer revealed that Kraven was actually talking about Venom, and hinted that the character would be his real prey.

Shortly after the trailer was released, it was officially revealed that Tony Todd will be voicing Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Horror icon Todd is perhaps best known for his roles in the Candyman franchise and the Final Destination films, and his resume dates back to the 1980s. Over the years, he has done a lot of voice acting work in film, television and video games. In a recent post, the actor didn’t say much beyond that his character is dominant and gamers need to watch out. Peter Parker’s voice actor, Yuri Lowenthal, backed up this statement before Miles Morales Nadji Jeter dropped his own cryptic tweet. He specifically stated that the players are not ready for what is to come.

Ever since Tony Todd’s casting was revealed, the actor has been posting regular updates about the game. The Venom actor teased in May 2022 that he was doing motion capture, presumably for Spider-Man 2. He’s teased before about how big the game will be, but he’s deliberately avoided giving anything important away, and it’s unclear how big or how much of a role the character will play in the upcoming sequel.

Venom did not appear in the first game, but in a post-game scene, a heavily hinted at symbiote for the character appeared. This led to much speculation about the character, including the idea that Harry Osborne could be both Venom and Green Goblin. Despite the planned 2023 release date, Insomniac Games and Sony have been lax in promoting the game so far. Because of this, it seems that updates on the game’s development only appear when actors like Tony Todd mysteriously tweet about them, and fans will have to settle for now.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for release on PS5 in 2023.
