Hogwarts Legacy has been a massive hit on Steam, taking the top four spots on last week’s best-selling games list!

 

 

Hogwarts Legacy has taken Steam with a charge. It quickly took the top four spots on last week’s best-selling games list. The game received (mostly) positive reviews on its release. In addition to the critical reception, sales were also successful, at least on Steam.

SteamDB graphs show that Hogwarts Legacy has one of the highest concurrent players counts for a single-player game on Steam, beaten only by Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring, although the latter has a multiplayer component.

Hogwarts Legacy is exceptionally close to, or even ahead of, Elden Ring, with 879,309 simultaneous players on Steam at peak time yesterday. The Elden Ring’s concurrent player count is 953,426, but Cyberpunk 2077’s record of 1,054,388 is unlikely to be beaten.

Benji-Sales’ tweet lists the top 10 best-selling games on Steam. It shows that Hogwarts Legacy takes the top four spots, with the standard and digital deluxe editions taking two each. In a follow-up tweet, Benji-Sales mentions that Steam counts pre-orders and releases SKUs separately. So the record comes from two users who pre-ordered the game. The other two represent players who purchased it at launch. Furthermore, Benji-Sales confirms that this is a revenue-based table. This makes Hogwarts Legacy’s performance even more impressive, considering it’s above the Steam Deck, which starts at $399.

The fact that the digital deluxe edition of Hogwarts Legacy tops the list is not surprising, as users received 72 hours of early access in addition to cosmetic products.

It will be interesting to see how the top-sellers chart develops over the rest of the month. Especially after Atomic Heart, Like a Dragon: Ishin! and Destiny 2: Lightfall all arrive in February. The rest of Steam’s top-seller list includes Project Zomboid, Dead Space, Dying Light 2 and Destiny 2: Lightfall, with CS: GO Prime Status Upgrade taking the last spot.

Sales figures for console releases vary by region, but fans can expect similar results across all available platforms. Hogwarts Legacy is proving to be a massive success for WB Games and will likely end up as one of the best-selling games of 2023. In addition to solid sales, the game has highly positive user reviews on Metacritic, with the PS5 version currently scoring a 9.1.
