Australian composer Mick Gordon has announced on Twitter that he will donate his royalties to support the crisis in Ukraine. Atomic Heart is an upcoming action role-playing game incorporating survival, puzzles and first-person shootouts.

The game will be released on February 21 after several delays, and the hype continues to build.

Atomic Heart is set in the Soviet Union in 1955, where a legion of AI-controlled robots sabotage and attack humanity. The player’s task is to find out how and why the robots have been sabotaged and to repair the neural network that was sabotaged in the first place.

Mick Gordon’s Twitter post says that the award for musical contribution was donated to the Australian Red Cross’ Ukraine Crisis Appeal. He explains that by donating, he is providing “practical support” to those affected by the crisis in Ukraine and is “confident my donation will positively impact those in need.”

Gordon started working with the development company Mundfish back in 2020. It was first announced that his music would be part of the game when Mundfish released a gameplay trailer. He claims that his “love for Soviet-era synthesizers” and the game’s interesting setting gave him a lot of creative freedom. Enthusiastic fans have already expressed their love for the musical snippets featured in the trailers. Gordon is famous for his Wolfenstein and DOOM soundtracks, which have been loved by fans and critics alike.

Mundfish previously sparked some controversy after making statements about the war in Ukraine, saying it was an “undeniably a pro-peace organization against violence against people.”

Followers thought the statements were vague. Given that the company originated in Russia. However, the developers did not comment further on the issue. Whether Mundfish holds similar views to Gordon’s is not yet known.

Fans of Atomic Heart won’t have to wait much longer. And the mix of fast-paced combat and Gordon’s music is sure to attract many players. Atomic Heart is also coming to Game Pass so subscribers can try the title from day one at no additional cost. This will open up the game to players who may not have heard of it before.
