MOVIE NEWS – Scream VI star Jenna Ortega says the slasher sequel will feature “very visceral” death scenes courtesy of the new Ghostface.
Soon we’ll see Ghostface back on the big screen to carry out another massacre. According to the franchise’s star Jenna Ortega, the film will feature a version of the masked killer unlike anything we’ve seen before. In each of the Scream movies, a different killer hides under the mask of Ghostface at the end of the film. This means that in the upcoming Scream VI sequel, someone new will be the killer. Ortega will return as Tara Carpenter from last year’s Scream. She’s one of the handful of survivors who managed to survivpreviouse last Ghostface killer massacre.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the SAG Awards, Ortega gave fans a taste of what to expect in Scream VI.
He warned that this Ghostface is much more brutal than what fans have come to expect. He noted that he was much less “clumsy” than some of the other killers. That doesn’t mean there won’t be comedic moments in the new Scream. But Ortega warns that the new killer will be more complex, with darker and more “tragic” murders. From the interview:
“I think Ghostface is a lot more of a scary figure. I feel like we’ve always seen him as kind of a clumsy, funny almost killer. Where I think in this one, he’s actually, a lot of the deaths are very visceral and very, kind of tragic in a sense, which kind of brought in this more dramatic atmosphere. But I still think we do a good job of balancing comedy and stuff like this, but I think audiences should be prepared for it to be a bit more of a roller coaster, more than anything.”
No word on who will survive this time around. Courteney Cox is also returning in Scream VI as Gale Weathers: making her the only classic character from any previous film to return.
Neve Campbell has publicly said she will not be in it. The returning stars of Scream 2022 include Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding. Hayden Panettiere is also returning to reprise her role from the fourth episode. Scream VI will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick writing the screenplay.
Scream VI will be released in cinemas on 10 March 2023.
