Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can download three free games in March instead of the usual two.
Xbox’s March 2023 free game offerings for Xbox Live Gold subscribers have been honed as part of the Games With Gold program. This month’s two free games are Sudden Strike 4: Complete Collection and Truberbrook. Both are available between 1 March and 31 March.
Games with Gold is an exclusive program offered only to Xbox Live Gold-level members and Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.
As part of the program’s monthly benefits, two games from the Xbox library will be made available to subscribers for free. Of course, the quality of the games may vary from month to month.
From 1 March, Xbox Live Gold members and Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can snag two free games until the end of the month. The first of the two games in the Games with Gold program is Sudden Strike 4: Complete Collection, a real-time military tactical game set in World War II. Sudden Strike 4: Complete Collection offers 6 DLC packs, ranging in price from $1.99 to $19.99, as well as free content updates and several missions unavailable in the base game. The Complete Collection also includes the game’s official soundtrack.
The second game available during March is Truberbrook, developed by bft Games. Initially scheduled for release in April 2019, Truberbrook is a sci-fi point-and-click adventure game set in 1960s Germany. Anno was launched from a successful Kickstarter campaign. Truberbrook received a 68 rating on Metacritic, but overall on Steam, it received a “mostly positive” rating, with 932 reviews as of launch.
In a rare twist, a third free game will be available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers from 16 March to 15 April.
Developed by Obscure Tales, Lamentum is a pixel art-style survival horror game. Players take control of an aristocrat named Victor Hartwell in mid-19th century New England. The protagonist confronts Lovecraftian cosmic horrors in a vast haunted mansion. The game has a Metacritic score of 74 and a “Very Positive” rating on Steam. Some speculate that the quality of free games offered through Games with Gold is lower than expected. This is due to Microsoft’s efforts to drive players towards Game Pass. Examples of this are the somewhat more exciting March releases, including MLB The Show 23, Valheim and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
