Even though the PlayStation 5 was released more than two years ago, Sony hasn’t had enough time to get one of the tracking statistics features working correctly!
The PlayStation 5 Standard Edition and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, cheaper due to the lack of a Blu-ray drive, launched in November 2020. For two years, Sony’s new-generation console suffered from a stock shortage. Still, the company has now admitted that this period is over (and the result is the Live from PS5 TV ad campaign, which refers to the console’s improved availability as “increased PS5 activity”). It’s been over two years since then. We’ve also gone through a price increase (except in the US, although there is inflation there, too, clearly. Sony didn’t dare to raise the price due to the competitiveness of the Xbox Series there). One statistic continues to fail despite the plethora of new firmware!
PSL reported what readers may have experienced. A significant system software update for the PlayStation 5 arrived this week, bringing greater Discord integration. Another new feature is that when you hover over a game icon in the menu, the console will show you how many hours you’ve played. The initiative is good (the feature has been on Steam for years), but the execution is not: for many, the PlayStation 5 gave incorrect data. It doesn’t seem true that connecting to the PlayStation Network makes the measured time accurate.
Even during the PlayStation 4 years, the year-end recap had an error tracking the playing time, so it isn’t a new problem around Sony. According to PSL’s editor, there are some games where the time the console thinks was spent on playing the game is higher than the actual game time, and in other cases, it underestimates the length. The inaccuracy is, unfortunately, still with us.
When will this issue be fixed?
