System Shock Remake: More Sad News For Fans Of The Franchise!

System Shock remake not ready for March release date: delayed on PC. And there’s no word yet on a console release date.

Nightdive Studios, the team behind the upcoming System Shock remake, has announced that the game will not reach the previously promised March 2023 release window. The remake has had a hellish development cycle. The current two-month delay is the latest disappointment for fans of the classic cyberpunk title.

Development on the remake was initially announced in 2015, and the team announced in 2018 that the game’s development would have to be restarted from scratch.

After a lengthy Kickstarter campaign, the System Shock remake was expected to be ready sometime in 2020. After that goal was not met, a tentative release window of late 2021 was announced. The game was then pushed back to 2022 and then to March 2023.

Now the project has been delayed by another two months. Nightdive Studios has announced that the game will now be released for PC on May 30, 2023. The announcement explicitly highlights the PC release. This is because the console versions of the remake are not expected to be released until later in the year.

Nightdive Studios promised that the remake would come with many new features. Previously announced new elements of the game include brand-new enemy types. In addition, new sound effects, a new hacking system, updated high-definition visuals, an updated control scheme, an updated user interface and a new dismemberment mechanic will undoubtedly come in handy when taking down enemies. Indeed, the team took a lot of time to implement and perfect these new mechanics. The studio stated via a Kickstarter update in early 2022 that the game was playable from start to finish.

In recent years, a critically and commercially successful remake of a decades-old game has been released: Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake is highly anticipated by fans of both the original RE4 game and contemporary Resident Evil titles.

In addition, EA released a remake of Dead Space earlier this year to almost universal acclaim. Since its release, many have wondered whether EA will continue to adapt further episodes of the Dead Space series.

Nightdive Studios is undoubtedly hoping that the System Shock remake will receive a similarly positive reception. It’s possible that the studio will also make a remake of System Shock 2 in the future. It is possible, however, that despite the critical acclaim they have received from the industry as a whole, they may not be able to continue working on any System Shock titles. This is due to Chinese conglomerate Tencent acquiring the development rights to the long-dormant System Shock 3 last year.
