TECH NEWS – A picture of one of the AR (augmented reality) headset cables, supposedly called Reality Pro, has been leaked.
“Because Apple isn’t very optimistic about the AR/MR headset announcement recreating the astounding “iPhone moment,” the mass production schedule for assembly has been pushed back by another 1-2 months to mid-to-late Q3 2023. The delay also adds uncertainty to whether the new device will appear at WWDC 2023, as the market widely expects. Furthermore, due to the delay in mass production for assembly, the shipment forecast this year is only 200,000 to 300,000 units, lower than the market consensus of 500,000 units or more.
The main concerns for Apple not being very optimistic regarding the market feedback to the AR/MR headset announcement include the economic downturn, compromises on some hardware specifications for mass production (such as weight), the readiness of the ecosystem and applications, a high selling price ($3,000-4,000 or even higher), etc.,” wrote Ming-Chi Kuo on Twitter. The analyst subscribed to Twitter Blue, writing a single message. (We reported on the subscription in more detail earlier.) He had previously expressed a different opinion on the product, calling Reality Pro the most revolutionary consumer electronics device after the iPhone…
WWDC 2023 will be held on June 5, and if Apple follows the formula of last year (where the redesigned MacBook Air with M2 chip was announced), then this year, alongside the larger 15″ MacBook Air, the AR headset could also be unveiled, if mass production is not delayed. The images that used to be leaked have previously been blurred. However, we can now see more details courtesy of Sonny Dickson.
Apple has designed ribbon cables that can follow the shape of the AR headset built on the M-series chip, but the images don’t reflect its form, as it’s an internal component that connects to the rest of the machine. Cables running around the eyes transmit the data. The parts are numbered so they can be easily identified. The headset has several 4K resolution micro-OLED displays with lower power consumption. The external display will be able to express the wearer’s feelings.
