A New Patch For The Last of Us Part I; Still A Long Way To Quality

Naughty Dog can rightly look badly at Iron Galaxy, which last time, for example, released the PC port of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection with a slightly flawed format.

The work of the studio responsible for the port cannot be described as good or bad, but rather as shaky, as Metroid Prime Remastered on the Nintendo Switch, for example, was almost flawlessly good, taking the game by Retro Studios, currently working on Metroid Prime 4, to a new level. But there’s also a negative example: the PC port of Batman: Arkham Knight was so poor on release that Warner had to suspend sales temporarily…

It’s baffling that Sony should have entrusted them with the PC conversion of one of their blockbuster IPs. We’ve already written about the 1.0.1.5 patch, but it didn’t help much. We also wrote about the need to mod the Oodle library for more stable performance, as the developers used the newer, memory-leaking version in Joel and Ellie’s adventure. (So yes: you must mod the game to make it run properly. So, in this case, the pirated version gives a more stable experience than the version on Steam and the Epic Games Store…)

We looked on Steam, and the situation is much improved. 41% of the 11470 user reviews are positive, so it’s no longer “mostly negative” but mixed for the PC version of The Last of Us Part I, which has received the latest update, 1.0.1.6. Naughty Dog has reduced the PSO cache size to reduce memory consumption and the number of times it crashes due to lack of RAM. Additional diagnostic tools have been added to the game to help developers analyze bugs more accurately. The amount of memory dedicated to streaming animations has been increased to allow for better performance during gameplay and scenes. Finally, a solution has been found to the first start-up glitch.

The game needs some time to run at a decent performance…
