Fallout 4: Will The Next-Gen Update Include New Vegas Content?!

Bethesda’s recent activities suggest that Fallout: New Vegas-themed content may be coming as part of the Fallout 4 next-gen update.

The Fallout 4 next-gen update may include Fallout: New Vegas-themed content. This is what Bethesda’s recent developer activity suggests. The next-gen update was initially announced for October 2022 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. According to the developer, a release is expected sometime in 2023.

Bethesda previously revealed that the enhanced version of the 2015 RPG hit would introduce a performance mode for gamers who prefer higher frame rates over better texture resolution, as well as several bug fixes.

In another development, Bethesda added the “newvegas2” repository to the Steam version of Fallout 4 on April 4, according to SteamDB. Despite the name, it is doubtful that the repo is an actual Fallout: New Vegas 2 game. A more likely explanation is that the repository refers to a Creation Club section. This could presumably be dedicated to New Vegas-themed F4 mods. The latter could be part of the upcoming next-gen update.

The developer’s decision to add “newvegas2” to a new code branch is presumably no joke. If only because SteamDB also reveals the existence of another relatively recent F4 repo. Bethesda released this on March 14 as “beta2”. The nickname seems to imply that the developer is simply adding a “2” to the name of every repo associated with the fourth Fallout next-gen update.

Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim are the two Bethesda games that have introduced Creation Club support so far. This store for paid mods could be on the schedule for the studio’s next game. But so far, there are no signs that Starfield will actually be released with Bethesda’s Creation Club.

This newly surfaced hint that New Vegas-themed mods will be part of Fallout 4’s next-gen update suggests that Bethesda remains very aware of the 2010 game’s cult fanbase.

Fallout: New Vegas, however, is unlikely to be in the studio’s plans for the foreseeable future. The developer has repeatedly said that its next project after Starfield will be The Elder Scrolls 6. Given that Bethesda’s development cycles have been getting longer lately, the Fallout series may have to wait another decade for a new mainline game.
