According to rumors, the Japanese company and the survival horror known from the 90s may have found each other.
There have been a lot of remakes coming out lately (you don’t have to think in terms of survival horror, with two this year, Dead Space Remake and Resident Evil 4 Remake, or there’s also The Last of Us Part I), but there could be more to come from Sunsoft. They have about one horror IP, Clock Tower, and Dusk Golem, a not consistently accurate insider (who has, however, repeatedly hit the nail on the head regarding Silent Hill and Resident Evil), has hinted that there will be some announcement at Sunsoft’s second broadcast on April 20.
But he was also shocked that Sunsoft and its developer WayForward Technologies, did not discuss the game during the show. On Twitter, Dusk Golen wrote that he was used to waiting for something but had planned to talk about Clock Tower during the April 20 broadcast. However, it is worth explaining what Sunsoft has to do with all this.
Clock Tower was Human Entertainment’s work on the Super Famicom (known as the SNES around here) and PS1. They were more traditional, atmospheric adventure games where Scissorman, the iconic killer of the series, followed us. They weren’t hugely successful games, but the IP still had a fanbase, so it’s no coincidence that we hear that the Super Famicom version of Clock Tower was the starting point for the survival horror genre (we’d go back a little further in time, though: we think Capcom’s Sweet Home for the Famicom is the one…).
Human Entertainment went bankrupt, and Sunsoft bought the rights to Clock Tower, so we hear rumors of a revival. Since Sunsoft itself has resurrected after a long hiatus, it’s possible that after Trip World, Gimmick!, and Ufouria, Clock Tower might get a modernized look…
