Will There Be a Sherlock Holmes 3? Robert Downey Jr.’s Wife and Producer Gives Hopeful Answer

MOVIE NEWS – The third installment of the movies based on the popular detective novels has been in the works for years, but producer Susan Downey says her husband Robert Downey Jr. treats the project as a priority.

Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows were huge hits in 2009 and 2011, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. The films directed by Guy Ritchie gave a fresh spin to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic character, and many fans hoped for a trilogy finale.

However, the making of the third part did not go smoothly, and the shooting and release dates were postponed several times. Currently, the film has no official release date, and the coronavirus pandemic may cause further delay.

But not all is lost, at least according to Susan Downey, producer and wife of Robert Downey Jr. In an interview with Collider, she said that Sherlock Holmes 3 is still important to them, but they don’t want to rush it.

“This film is one of our priorities, but we don’t want to just throw it together. We want to find the right story that is worthy of the previous two parts” – Susan Downey said.

She added that they have a script written by Chris Brancato (Narcos), and a director, Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman), who took over from Guy Ritchie. “We are very excited about Dexter, because he is a great director and he understands this universe very well” – Susan Downey said.

The producer also revealed that they are planning some TV shows in the Sherlock Holmes world, which would be produced by HBO Max and Warner Bros. However, these are still only ideas and it is not known when they will come true.

The fans will have to be patient, but hopefully, they won’t have to wait long to see Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law’s adventures on the screen again.
