TECH NEWS – Few of the women are open to trying cryptocurrencies and only with a small amount, they know little about this area, they prefer bitcoin, but they consider it safer than men . On behalf of Binance, a representative research and social media survey was prepared on Hungarians’ knowledge of cryptocurrencies. The results show that women’s education and the reduction of gender differences are extremely important in this area, which the global company has been putting a lot of emphasis on for years.
The Binance Foundation donated $2 million last year to fund more than 36,000 Web3 scholarships for women around the world, and the education will continue to the same extent this year. The company is convinced that without education, gender relations in the field of digital access will remain unequal.
The results of a representative research conducted on behalf of the world’s largest crypto exchange revealed that about half as many women use cryptocurrency as a hobby than men, and the same number consider it an additional income (36 percent). Binance was interested in industry knowledge for both genders. The survey of 1,034 people revealed that 93 percent of women have not yet used cryptocurrency because they are not interested in this area or because they feel they do not know enough to try it.
Those female respondents who would use cryptocurrency would be willing to spend a small amount on it; 80 percent of them amount below HUF 50,000. The most popular type of cryptocurrency, bitcoin, is known to 80 percent of the female respondents, while only one in five knows ethereum. The lack of knowledge is also supported by the fact that 31 percent of women think virtual money is risky, while the figure is 46 percent for men. At the same time, one third of women said that they would not want to try it at all.
In its own research, Binance also looked at Hungarian Facebook, podcasts and TikTok. This revealed, among other things, that the presence of women on the social platforms of the crypto world is insignificant, 90 percent of posts on the topic are responded to by men, women hardly comment, but other types of interaction are not significant either. The majority of podcasts on this topic are hosted by men. Short videos made by men usually appear on TikTok when searching for the keyword cryptocurrency.
Academy has been localized into the languages of several countries, thus helping you to access educational content about cryptocurrencies, thereby we support financial awareness and freedom. We are creating targeted scholarships and training for women so that as many of them as possible are in leading positions in the blockchain sector,” said Kirilo Khomiakov, head of Binance’s Central and Eastern European region.
The contents of Binance Academy are available for free, so anyone can start learning at any time. The academy has nearly 1,000 articles and a glossary, and holds high-quality courses in more than 30 languages – including Hungarian. The number of visitors to the academy exceeded 26 million in 2022, and Binance is confident that the materials of the educational platform will significantly facilitate learning about the crypto world.
To further reduce the gender gap, Binance recently created its first official internship and graduate program, providing additional opportunities for women to build careers in the industry.
