The “Honest Trailer” for The Super Mario Bros. Movie mocks Zack Snyder’s frequent use of slow motion. Based on Nintendo’s iconic video game franchise, the animated adaptation follows Mario (Chris Pratt), who must team up with Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) and Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen) to rescue his brother Luigi (Charlie Day) from Bowser (Jack Black) before the villain conquers the Mushroom Kingdom.

Super Mario Bros. was released to a positive reception from audiences. It earned more than $1.2 billion worldwide, setting a record for the highest-grossing video game film. It is currently the highest-grossing film of 2023.

The video imagines Snyder as the director of a future adaptation of Max Payne, a video game series known for its slow-motion action as its main gameplay mechanic.

The director is a suitable comparison. Especially since his most notable films, including 300, Sucker Punch and Justice League, have heavily featured slow motion. Screen Junkies also lampoon Luigi’s scant screen time. As well as the obligatory casting of Rogen and Key. Also, that Bowser is simply an animated version of Black.

Although no sequel has yet been announced, the resounding financial success of Super Mario Bros. Because of this, it is more than likely that Nintendo and Illumination will be inspired to create a movie franchise. Since Luigi was primarily left out of the film, a potential sequel could give him time to shine. Black recently spoke to Screen Rant and expressed interest in a Bowser’s Revenge storyline after the final events of the film. As this is likely to be one of the year’s biggest films, Hollywood is certainly taking notice. If so, there could be several more adaptations in development.
