Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Runs On A Device Nintendo Would Never Approve! [VIDEO]

TECH NEWS – An avid Zelda fan has managed to run and play The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on a PlayStation Vita with the help of some handy software!

A fan of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has managed to run the game on PS Vita using an open-source game streaming service. The player demonstrates that the game can be played on PS Vita by visiting New Serenne Stable. This is one of the first locations Link can head to when he descends into Hyrule.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player Oriori was able to play the game on his PS Vita handheld console using the Moonlight streaming service.

Oriori emulated the game using the Yuzu Nintendo Switch emulator. He then continued playing the game on PS Vita using Moonlight homebrew software. The user demonstrates the performance of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on PS Vita by heading to the New Serenne Stable, talking to NPCs, and exploring the field next to the first geoglyph in the Impa questline.

The program is streamed from a high-end gaming PC via gigabit Wi-Fi. According to Oriori, this allows the game to stream at twice the native resolution. Specifically, Oriori’s PC runs an RTX 3090 Ti graphics card and Intel 10900K processor. The game seems playable without any graphical issues. However, some users question the input latency of the streaming service when playing on PS Vita.

The latest Zelda title, Moonlight, can be played in clear resolution on PS Vita. But some fans say the input lag can detract from the experience when compared to running the game natively on Nintendo Switch. The PC hardware required to stream the game to another device may be too expensive for some.

In addition, the compatibility of the emulator with the potential Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom DLC is still unclear.

Further improvements in cloud streaming technology and services may be needed before the title can be streamed with very low input lag. It may be that the Nintendo Switch lacks the processing and graphics power for the various titles. But TotK is one of the platform’s most optimised games so far. Cloud streaming on Nintendo Switch will remain an option for more demanding titles.
