Ryota Suzuki is no stranger to the industry, having previously worked on several popular franchises for another Japanese publisher.
Suzuki has previously worked on Devil May Cry V, Dragon’s Dogma, and Monster Hunter, so it’s no coincidence that the combat in Final Fantasy XVI is similar to DMC V, as his style is evident in the Square Enix game that’s due for release in the next few days. The Japanese publisher celebrated this in a live broadcast a few days ago, with Suzuki speaking out: “We put priority on designing this game’s battle system to appeal to those who previously have not played or are not well versed in action games. I hope those who have never played an action game before can try Final Fantasy 16. I hope this game will allow you to experience the allure that an action game can bring.”
Naoki Yoshida, aka Yoshi-P, the game’s producer, said that the motion blur effect had received much feedback and could be turned off. This option will come to the game in a future update, which will also have a new difficulty level during New Game+. According to the developers, Final Fantasy mode will only be unlocked once you’ve completed the game. Opponents will be on a higher level, but our level cap will also be raised to 100. We can craft Ultima weapons, but our level, items, and abilities come with us from the first playthrough. We will get a gold trophy for the second playthrough.
Square Enix, meanwhile, has admitted that several copies of Final Fantasy XVI were leaked before launch: “We’re aware that a small number of physical copies of Final Fantasy XVI are being circulated. We are conducting a thorough investigation into illegitimate acquisitions and are acting to limit this head of the official game launch on June 22. For those who receive a copy before launch, we kindly ask that you do not share any aspect of the game, including screenshots, videos, and live streams, until after Final Fantasy XVI officially launches. Our priority is to ensure that the full game experience is not spoiled for our fans. We will take down any images, videos, or streams published before launch day. We ask for your assistance and cooperation in this final week ahead of launch,” Square Enix wrote.
So spoilers beware; Final Fantasy XVI arrives on PlayStation 5 on June 22.
