You Won’t Believe How Many Assassin’s Creed Titles Ubisoft is Working on at the Same Time!

A new report suggests that Ubisoft is currently working on around 11 Assassin’s Creed titles. An earlier report had already claimed that Ubisoft is expanding the Assassin’s Creed development team, which now makes more sense given that there are more projects in the pipeline.

The Assassin’s Creed series has long been Ubisoft’s crown jewel. The Prince of Persia series laid the groundwork for parkour-filled action-adventure gameplay, which Assassin’s Creed takes to the next level with its immersive story, world design and polished stealth gameplay mechanics. What’s more, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla became Ubisoft’s first billion-dollar game, which was reason enough for the French developer to double down on its best-selling franchise. Consequently, that’s exactly what it’s doing, as it’s reportedly currently working on several Assassin’s Creed titles.

According to Insider Gaming, Ubisoft is currently working on 11 Assassin’s Creed titles, including the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Mirage. In addition to Mirage, three other titles are currently in production, Assassin’s Creed Nexus, Assassin’s Creed Codname Jade and Assassin’s Creed Codename Red. Two of these games, Codename Hexe and Codename Invictus, are reportedly in pre-production. In addition, three games, codenamed Nebula, Raid and Echoes, are in the concept phase, with Raid and Nebula being multiplayer Assassin’s Creed titles. The report also mentions that internal discussions are underway for a VR game sequel, Assassin’s Creed Nexus. Another title rumored to be in development is the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake, which will introduce Edward Kenway to the franchise. Interestingly, Black Flag is also Ubisoft’s fifth biggest selling game of all time, with around 15 million copies sold, which could be a big factor in the comeback.

An important detail in this line-up is that the games are a mix of multiplayer and single-player titles, with one of the games also being developed for mobile. Assassin’s Creed first introduced multiplayer with Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood in 2011, but the mode was popularised by Assassin’s Creed Unity, which still has active players eight years after its release. However, it did not gain significant popularity, despite many fans appreciating the innovative gameplay, so it will be interesting to see how Ubisoft approaches a full multiplayer game in the series.

The fact that Ubisoft is betting on the Assassin’s Creed series makes financial sense, but is also confusing as they could focus on other IPs. Last year Ubisoft cancelled around seven games and the future of the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake is uncertain. However, it is also reportedly working on two new Far Cry games, leaving fans wondering if the developer will be able to handle such an extensive roster without further cancellations.
