Main Character Switch in ‘The Witcher’: An 80s Deja Vu with Sean Connery’s Son That Shocked Fans!

MOVIE NEWS – Viewers of The Witcher series were shocked to learn that Henry Cavill, who has been playing Geralt of Rivia, will not return for season four. Instead, Liam Hemsworth, the younger brother of famous actor Chris Hemsworth, will take over the role of the protagonist. This unexpected change has outraged many who thought Cavill was the ideal choice for the role. But it’s not the first time that the main character of a well-known fantasy series has left the series in the middle of a story…

The popular fantasy series “Robin of Sherwood” is an interesting example of the main character unexpectedly leaving the show and being replaced by another, less charismatic, more boring actor. Michael Praed played Robin of Loxley at the beginning of the series, known as Robin Hood. However, when Praed was invited to join the American soap opera Dynasty, he left the role of Robin of Sherwood.

The creators killed off the Robin of Loxley character at the end of the second season of the series, in the episode “The Greatest Enemy”. In this episode, the King ordered the Sheriff of Nottingham to kill Robin Hood or lose his power. The original script focused on the character of Nasir and his backstory, but the episode had to be rewritten due to Praed’s departure1.

Praed was replaced by Sean Connery’s son Jason Connery, who played the character Robert of Huntingdon. The show’s creators developed Robert’s character to fit the story, and he eventually became the heir apparent to the Robin Hood role. In the third season, viewers learned that Robert of Huntingdon was the half-brother of Guy of Gisburne, who was one of the main villains in the series. This thread was never completed because the series was not renewed for a fourth season.

After the series ended, the creators made several attempts to revive the show, but these attempts were unsuccessful. Richard Carpenter, the show’s writer, tried to get funding for a film adaptation, but this did not materialise.

Despite the change, Robin of Sherwood’s popularity has remained intact, although audience feedback has been extremely mixed on Jason Connery’s performance – those who were not happy with it were very vocal. Both Michael Praed’s and Jason Connery’s careers continued after the series, but both declined quickly and neither could match the fame they had achieved in Robin of Sherwood, and Praed regretted leaving Robin of Sherwood for Dynasty.
