Yanni “Y4nnOXX” Ouahioune is lucky not to go to jail, but he’ll have to do community service for three years!
The Montréal Gazette reported that 22-year-old Ouahioune was responsible for the 2020 case when he lied to police about a hostage at Ubisoft’s Montréal studio. For this reason, the French publisher evacuated the building. Now he’s received a sentence from a French court: he has to do a community sentence for three years, which doesn’t seem like much compared to the time he spent threatening Mojang (the developers of Minecraft) and performing a DDoS attack on French government servers…
The Ubisoft Montréal hoax case (swatting) happened in November 2020, and the police wasted their whole day on it. No hostages were found, and no one was injured, so it made sense to call the call a hoax, and the Montréal police immediately launched an investigation to find out who was behind it. Ouahioune eventually came to their attention. The French national had been playing Rainbow Six: Siege, but badly, because he had to resort to cheating, which got him banned several times by Ubisoft. Ouahioune denied that he had anything to do with the swatting. Still, unfortunately, he was so stupid that he left a YouTube channel up where it was indeed shown that he was “going to punish Rainbow Six: Siege with cheats of hell” and there is also a rap song called “F__k Ubisoft.”
“We acknowledge the court’s decision. In this trial, we were committed to representing the interests of our employees affected by this false hostage-taking alert at our Montreal studio. It was important for us to denounce this violent and unacceptable incident. We will not comment further out of respect for our employees affected by this event,” Ubisoft Montréal said.
Ouahioune’s punishment consists of three penalties, as he pleaded guilty in June to launching a DDoS attack against French government offices and threatening Mojang. For the DDoS, it is surprising that he was not jailed…
