Assassin’s Creed Mirage: Will One Important Element Be Missing From The Game?!

Assassin’s Creed Mirage creative director Stephane Boudon revealed that not all popular features will return to the game. Including some parkour moves.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage creative director Stephane Boudon revealed in a recent “Ask me anything” chat that some parkour moves won’t return in the upcoming title. Ubisoft’s popular action franchise dramatically evolved in 2017 with Assassin’s Creed Origins. The latter not only gave players a vast open world to explore but also incorporated stronger role-playing elements. This design process continued in the next two games in the series, effectively leaving more traditional linear and story-driven titles by the wayside.

However, after numerous rumours and a few leaks, Assassin’s Creed Mirage looks set to change the franchise once again.

Abandoning RPG elements and vast open worlds, Mirage takes the franchise back to its roots. Using the original Assassin’s Creed as inspiration. Set in 9th-century Baghdad, players take on the role of a younger Basim, who goes from street thief to master assassin within the Brotherhood. Mirage also offers a much smaller setting. It brings back the classic black box-style missions seen initially in Assassin’s Creed Unity. It also limits the tools Basim can access.

However, as much as Assassin’s Creed Mirage leans towards the classic style of games, it doesn’t bring everything back. Stephane Boudon has confirmed that the parkour system will not fully meet fans’ expectations from pre-AC3 titles. Specifically, backwards and sideways jumps will not be included in the parkour system. Thus, fans cannot force Basim to jump back or sideways in a single fluid motion.

Boudon went on to talk a little more about the game’s new parkour system. He explained that the team focused primarily on making the movement convey a sense of fluidity and agility. Ubisoft took inspiration from several games rather than highlighting a specific game in the franchise.

A lot of effort has been put into the small details so that players can really feel like they’re controlling Basimo with the best feeling.

Some fans may be disappointed by the news. But Ubisoft has confirmed some returning features that may interest fans of older games. Expressly, the official Assassin’s Creed Twitter account has confirmed that Mirage players will once again be able to paint Basim’s base costumes. More emphasis will be placed on community stealth. Using tools such as nozzles and smoke bombs, players will even have access to a unique blue-grey colour palette similar to the original Assassin’s Creed effects.
