MOVIE NEWS – Mission: Impossible 7 is another big payday for Tom Cruise. But will it top the ten figures for Top Gun: Maverick…?
Tom Cruise is known to be paid an enormous salary. Mission: Impossible 7 (sorry, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part 1…) continues this trend. But it may not be the highest. The Impossible franchise has grossed over $3.8 billion so far. That number will only get a lot bigger with the release of Mission: Impossible 7. The action-spy series has become one of the most successful franchises primarily due to Cruise’s commitment to playing Ethan Hunt. He’s even more committed to death-defying stunts. Cruise is willing to risk his life to entertain audiences literally.
Because Cruise is so tied to the success of the Mission: Impossible franchise, the actor is in an advantageous position regarding salary negotiations.
While Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One is part of a well-established franchise, it wouldn’t be half as successful without Cruise. The actor has long commanded huge salaries, and his bankability has made him one of the highest-paid actors of all time.
Tom Cruise “only” made $12-14 million with M:I 7?!
Tom Cruise is one of the best-selling actors of our time and has been a guaranteed hit with audiences for four decades. One of the main factors determining an actor’s salary is the size of the audience he brings in. In Cruise’s case, that audience is enormous. According to recent figures, he received between $12-14 million for Mission: Impossible 7 (via Variety). One studio executive commented, “I would never bet against Tom Cruise. Most actors aren’t worth what they’re paid, but Cruise and maybe Dwayne Johnson justify their salaries”. However, while $12-14 million is undoubtedly a considerable sum, it is almost peanuts compared to what Cruise is used to.
Given that movie stars are often paid $20 million or even $25 million, Cruise’s salary for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One seems a bit low, especially considering the outrageous stunt performances in the film.
Cruise consistently earns tens of millions of dollars for each of his film roles. His biggest paychecks include the Mission: Impossible films. He makes $70-100 million per film, mainly due to producer credits. The actor also reportedly earned $100 million for his starring role in War of the Worlds. He even made $68 million for the mixed reception of Vanilla Sky!
Cruise’s basic salary for Top Gun: Maverick was $13 million. However, the actor negotiated a massive bonus of 10 per cent of the film’s gross profits. This resulted in a salary of more than $100 million. Given that he will receive a similar wage for Mission: Impossible 7, Cruise has likely negotiated a percentage of the gross profits of the 2023 film. This would make a lot of sense, given that Tom Cruise is also the producer of Mission Impossible 7. However, Cruise’s final earnings will still be far less than what he earned for Top Gun. After all, the film is unlikely to beat Top Gun 2’s $1.5 billion box office gross.
