Resident Evil is something Capcom is planning in earnest, which is understandable given the franchise’s recent renaissance.
Dusk Golem/AestheticGamer has previously talked about Resident Evil 9, but that was relatively long ago (in March 2021). At the time, he said that there was a brief period in late 2018 when the Japanese company was working on five Resident Evil titles at once (Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil: Village, Resident Evil 9), and at the time, he saw 9 as still early in development and didn’t see a release before 2024 as realistic.
On Reddit, you can read what he said on Discord. According to him, Resident Evil 9 will be released later, so expect it in 2025, but it will be announced as early as 2024. In the meantime, there will be another game from the Japanese publisher, which he says will come out next fall and will be announced by Capcom at the end of the year (The Game Awards?), although it might not be a Resident Evil project, but a new Monster Hunter, for example. We’ve previously heard in other rumors that Resident Evil 9 will conclude the Winters story and star Chris Redfield. In any case, at the end of Resident Evil: Village, Ethan Winters sacrificed himself for his daughter, and in the game’s final DLC, she, Rosemary (Rose) Winters, took the lead role, albeit 16 years after the events of the main story. It will be interesting to see what will eventually come true because Rose may or may not be the main character.
In the meantime, let’s keep our eyes on the present: Capcom has announced that the Resident Evil 4 Remake has sold over 5 million copies so far. The last time the Japanese company announced such a figure was on April 7, when it was reported that the game, released on March 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Steam) and PlayStation 4, had reached 4 million copies. So it took a little over three months to get another million, which is not a bad result.
