MOVIE NEWS – Adam Driver may have declined a role in The Fantastic Four. The actor, known for playing Kylo Ren in Star Wars, could not identify with the character offered by Marvel, and therefore decided to decline the invitation.
Marvel’s new Fantastic Four film has taken a hit. There’s been much gossip surrounding the cast as various potential leads have been speculated over the past year. Naturally, John Krasinski, who played one version of Reed Richards in Doctor Strange 2, was mentioned, as well as Penn Badgley from the series You, Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionaire, and not least, Adam Driver, who many know as Kylo Ren from Star Wars.
In the meantime, Jon Watts, who was behind the Spiderman trilogy, has left the director’s position, replaced by Matt Shakman. The situation is similar for the female lead, Sue Storm: despite numerous rumors (including Margot Robbie’s name, who allegedly declined the opportunity, just like Driver), concrete details are missing, and filming has still not begun. The fresh gossip is not about another actor, but why Adam Driver turned down the role of Reed Richards offered by Marvel.
The information was shared by Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast, where he claimed, citing inside sources, that Driver withdrew because of the script: “Adam Driver never fully committed to this role. They sent him the script, but he did not feel that he could identify with the character written there. He declined the opportunity very quickly.”
However, Sneider added that there is still a possibility for Driver to take on the lead role if Marvel can shape the script in a way that meets the actor’s expectations. The script is currently being reworked by Josh Friedman. Marvel Studios plans to premiere the film on May 2, 2025, and filming is scheduled for early 2024…
