MOZI HÍREK – The Exorcist: The Believer, which is the sequel to the 1973 horror classic – so it does not take into account the uneven quality of exorcism opuses of the past decades – will be released in cinemas in the autumn, and we can already know that in 2025 the next part, Exorcist: Deceiver (approx. Exorcist: The Deceiver).
David Gordon Green, who directed a successful trilogy in recent years with the resurrection of Halloween, is now doing the same with The Exorcist. Green says the trilogy starts on completely new paths compared to the classic, only the basic concept remains. This time two little girls are possessed by the demon, and the desperate father turns to the main expert on the subject, namely Chris MacNeil, played by Ellen Burstyn in the first film. The actress returns after fifty years, she represents one of the important connections with the starting point. It is also known that Linda Blair, who played the possessed girl, Megan, in the original, was also present at the filming of the new episode, but Green is still unsure whether she participated as an expert or if she has a cameo.
There is another point of connection between the new opus and the classic. At the time, black and white strobe images of the possessed Regan flashed at the end of the theatrical trailer for The Exorcist. This caused some of the audience to have epileptic seizures, vomiting, dizziness or panic. The new trailer uses the same effect, albeit for a much shorter period of time, presumably suggesting that viewers of The Exorcist: The Believer will be in for a similar shock as the classic.
