TECH NEWS – According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, they didn’t start putting money into it recently, but it remains to be seen when Apple GPT will reach the public.
Apple has announced its quarterly financial results, with a cash flow of $81.8 billion, down 1% compared to the same period last year, but a profit of $19.9 billion. But that’s not the point; it’s what Cook said. According to Cook, the Cupertino-based company has invested in generative artificial intelligence for years. Still, we haven’t seen much in the way of a product from the company, so it does look like ‘the apples’ are a little behind the likes of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Microsoft’s Bing, and Google’s Bard.
During the fiscal report, Cook was not asked about Apple’s GPT (reportedly the name used within the staff). Still, he did speak to Reuters about the technology: “We’ve been doing research across a wide range of AI technologies, including generative AI, for years. We will continue investing, innovating, and responsibly advancing our products with these technologies to help enrich people’s lives. We’re investing a lot, and it shows up in the R&D spending you’re looking at.”
Either it will be integrated into Siri or become a new chatbot. We used to hear that it was unclear how Apple would move forward with technology, as two company executives disagreed on the issue, and it could delay the launch. To CNBC, Cook said the same thing (they’ve poured a lot of money into AI), but he didn’t say any more details. Still, one analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, said Apple is careful about generative artificial intelligence but will develop it in a slow-but-confident way over time to evolve it. “We view AI and machine learning as fundamental core technologies. And they are virtually embedded in every product that we build. On a research basis, we’ve been researching AI and machine learning, including generative AI, for years,” Apple told CNBC.
So they are slowly getting somewhere with it.
