Overwatch 2 is a free shooter game that just debuted on Steam, as part of Blizzard’s new initiative. However, the game has not been well received by Steam users, who have given it thousands of negative reviews. Players are dissatisfied with how the past year has gone for the game’s development, and how much the game’s business model and PvE content have changed.
Overwatch 2 is the sequel to Overwatch, which was released in 2014 and was inspired by the Dark Souls series. In the game, we can choose different characters that have their own abilities and roles in combat. The game has PvP and PvE modes, where we can play through different missions and stories. The graphics of the game have also improved compared to its predecessor, and new heroes have appeared.
However, the game failed to convince the Steam community, which gave it more than 6,000 negative reviews on the first day. Most of the criticism is directed at how Blizzard handled the transition from the first part to the second, and how they cut off the promised PvE Hero mode. The most popular review says that the game is selling the new heroes and PvE missions for money, which were previously free. “The game is good, I still feel the experience I love so much, but they have ruined it so much with this aggressive greed [that] I can’t recommend it to anyone,” wrote an Ornge user.
Many also complain that the game does not run as well as it should, and that it is full of bugs and animation problems. Some suggest playing other similar FPS games instead, such as Paladins. Some simply hate Hanzo, the Japanese archer hero, so much that it is not worth playing the whole game. The Steam reviews do not reflect the quality or content of the game, but rather what players are unhappy with lately.
Of course, this does not mean that Overwatch 2 is a bad game. On the contrary, there are some positives that are worth highlighting. The new support hero, Illari, is a lot of fun to play with, and the story missions are pretty good (though maybe not worth $15). PC Gamer says that Overwatch 2 is still a great shooter game that fans will enjoy.
