Far Cry: Series Gets A New Lead – Could The Next Episode Be Coming?!

The new director of the Far Cry series has teased that “big things” are “in store”.

Four days ago, Drew Holmes announced on his LinkedIn page that he had been named IP director for the franchise in a post that read: “It’s been an exciting few months… I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as IP Director of Far Cry at Ubisoft! We have big things in store. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you want to be a part of the next evolution of this great brand!”

The new director appointment comes two years after the departure of lead developer Dan Hay. This left fans wondering what would happen to their beloved games. Holmes has worked at Ubisoft for nearly eight years, where he has served as a senior writer, narrative director and brand narrative manager. If you’re an avid Far Cry fan, you may have seen Holmes’ work in Far Cry 5 and Far Cry: New Dawn.

Where the franchise is headed is still anyone’s guess, although a recent job posting seems to confirm that Far Cry 7 is in the works, as well as a standalone, multiplayer Far Cry title.

Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine is reportedly being used in development. The tentative release date for the next instalments is late 2025.

While this is still a long, long way off, the knowledge that a person familiar with the series will be leading the project will probably reassure fans of any concerns about what is happening and whether future games will be as good. Still, anything can happen between now and 2025. Unfortunately, we all know this painfully well.

Apart from maps, other changes that fans demand include adverse weather, character development and even some sea adventures with pirates. When we think of pirates, AC Black Flag comes to mind. No game has ever surpassed the pirating we did as Edward Kenway.

In short, fans want it all, and they want it now. In fact, they wanted it yesterday! For now, though, Ubisoft gamers will have to settle for Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s release on October 5 for current consoles and PC.
