With the announcement of Hades 2 last year, the game’s very existence opens up an uncharted path for its developer, Supergiant Games.
Although Hades 2 was announced at the Game Awards in December, there hasn’t been much information since. In four months, it will be one year since the sequel was confirmed. But we can expect news on Hades 2 relatively soon. That’s because it’s scheduled to get an early access period on PC before it’s properly released.
The game’s predecessor was incredibly well-received during the early access period in 2018. According to the studio, it sold over a million copies in less than two years.
It’s exciting to see that advances in the roguelike dungeon crawler are set to break essential barriers for the developer.
Despite the fact that a sequel has yet to be released, the developers can already be justifiably proud of Hades 2. If all goes according to plan, Hades 2 will be Supergiant Games’ first sequel. That’s right, the very first. This may come as surprising news, as the studio is also home to acclaimed games such as Bastion, Pyre and Transistor.
Hades 2 is the first game to break the boundaries of previous games. Fortunately, the team behind it seems keen to return to a world inspired by Greek mythology. Despite admitting that the studio has deliberately not made a sequel. Nonetheless, now that Zagreus’ journey has come to an end, the story should be just as enjoyable as ever, and the game is said to be a direct sequel to the original. Zagreus’ sister Melinoe will take on Cronus, the Titan of Time and King of the Titans.
Of course, some have speculated that the franchise’s renewal means Supergiant will return to its other IPs. Although Hades was a smash hit, its predecessors were admired. Moreover, even though the other games were released years before Hades, it may not be too late to start thinking about making new instalments.
