Diablo IV’s reign in North America lasted a month…
Circana (formerly NPD Group) released its July figures. Gamers spent $4.2 billion, up 1% from last year. The PlayStation 5 was first in both generated revenue and unit sales, but hardware sales were down 19% from last year due to a slowdown in Nintendo Switch momentum. Here’s the top 20 list of games for July:
- Remnant II
- Diablo IV
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Final Fantasy XVI
- Pikmin 4
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- Street Fighter 6
- Elden Ring
- MLB The Show 23
- Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Call of Duty: Black Ops II
- Minecraft
- FIFA 23
- Exoprimal
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

So Remnant II immediately knocked Diablo IV off the top spot, but sales couldn’t have been as good, as the game only made it to 18th place in the annual complete list with this first-place finish. Here’s the 2023 overall list so far:

- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

And Gamesindustry published the European list based on GSD sales data. Remnant II didn’t make it to the top, but Grand Theft Auto V did, even though it’s nearly ten years old and has sold over 175 million copies. Here are the top 15 (games with an asterisk exclude digital sales):
- Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar)
- FIFA 23 (EA)
