Fresh Rumours: Could There Finally Be A Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Movie Or Series?!

MOVIE NEWS – Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games remain popular titles; now a rumour suggests they could be ready for a change of medium…

Even after the Star Wars canon was established nearly a decade ago, stories from before that time are still popping up, and fans are reminiscing with wistful nostalgia. One such story is from the 2003 RPG video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which still lives on in the hearts of many today. It seems those hearts may include the people at Lucasfilm.

Twenty years on, the love for Knights of the Old Republic is still burning brightly. It’s not hard to see why. The Western role-playing game company BioWare (and its Obsidian Entertainment-developed sequel Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords) was one of the most insightful games in the Star Wars universe at the time. It allowed players to immerse themselves deeply in this world.

From the focus on player choice to the iconic story twist that resonates with fans to this day, it’s no mystery why KOTOR remains one of the most sought-after Star Wars games getting more love these days.

Fortunately, a rumour from a prolific film news leaker can give some hope. The MyTimeToShineHello newswire recently posted an exciting tweet refuting previous rumours about the KOTOR film trilogy. But she wasn’t just here to put anyone in a bad mood. She also gave some hope for the future. “There was NEVER a Knights of the Old Republic live action trilogy of movies planned despite reports,” she explained. “They considered a KOTOR project of some kind for years but it was never in active development. However, pre-strikes they finally started to put one into gears. They’ll keep working on it post-strikes.”

So, despite the fact that many projects are now on the back burner during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood, it is possible that a KOTOR film, series or other type of production could have started work earlier and could reopen if/when the powers that be decide to start treating the writers and actors with the respect (and money) they deserve. This would be huge news if it were true. After all, a continuation of the KOTOR storyline from these two beloved games has been on many gamers’ wish lists since the release of KOTOR II in 2004.

While it’s still considered one of the best Star Wars games to date, the writing and themes will linger in the memories of those who played them.

There are scattered reports of an upcoming remake of Knights of the Old Republic. But the world set in the beloved classic game has been left largely untouched by the current Star Wars canon. The closest currently is the still marginally popular Star Wars: The Old Republic massively multiplayer online game. This is set in a similar timeline, long before the events of the original films.
