Baldur’s Gate III Might Be Changing The Xbox Series’ Future!

Larian Studios’ game is coming to PlayStation 5 soon, but we’ll have to wait for the Xbox Series version… but a compromise has been reached!

Larian Studios has been upfront about Baldur’s Gate III being a multiplatform game, but technical issues have been holding the Belgian studio back for the Xbox Series. The team has also said that the split-screen cooperative gameplay on the Xbox Series S doesn’t work correctly. Microsoft expects parity in gameplay features between the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S.

It seems to be the train of thought that Microsoft is starting to abandon. Graphically, you can already see that some features (such as ray tracing) are not there on the Xbox Series S, while they are on the Xbox Series X. Now, however, there are some differences in gameplay, too. Let’s see what Larian CEO Swen Vincke wrote on Twitter because what’s happening with Baldur’s Gate III also outlines the future of both Xbox Series models:

“I am super happy to confirm that after meeting [Microsoft Gaming boss Phil Spencer] yesterday, we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate III to Xbox players this year, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time. All improvements will be there, with split-screen co-op on Xbox Series X. The Series S will not feature split-screen co-op, but will also include cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series,” Vincke wrote.

Were the developers right? The Xbox Series S is holding back development, and the case of Baldur’s Gate III shows that too much sacrifice has to be made for some things to work correctly on that console. Microsoft will be lucky to get Larian’s successful game this year, which will also be released on PlayStation 5 on September 6.
