Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division, does not deny that Microsoft’s console has not been able to compete with Sony and Nintendo’s games in recent years. But he says that will soon change because there are a lot of exciting projects underway in their own studios and with their partners. So gamers will want to switch to Xbox or stay put.
Microsoft’s console, the Xbox, is not exactly known for offering its users tons of exclusive games. Although several big titles have been released recently, such as Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5 or Psychonauts 2, most of them are also available on PC, so they don’t really motivate you to buy a console. In addition, Sony and Nintendo are constantly launching their own games on the market, which include real hits such as God of War, Spider-Man, Zelda or Mario.
Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division, does not even try to deny this situation. In a recent interview, he admitted that Xbox’s game offerings have been weak lately, and apologized to fans for that. “I know that many people have been disappointed with us in recent years. We weren’t able to create and release games of the quality and variety that showed the power and capabilities of the Xbox. For that, I apologize to everyone,” Spencer said.
But he says that will soon change because there are a lot of exciting projects underway in their own studios and with their partners. “I am very proud of how many talented teams work with us. In recent years, we have acquired several studios, such as Bethesda, Ninja Theory and Obsidian, and they are all making games for us that will only be available on Xbox. But these are not the only things players can expect. Our existing studios are also preparing a lot of new things, such as Avowed, Everwild or Fable. And, of course, there are also our external partners, with whom we closely cooperate,” continued Spencer.
The game manager also said that Xbox places great emphasis not only on the quantity of games, but also on their quality. “We don’t want to release games that don’t meet our high expectations. We’d rather give developers more time to polish their games than release a half-finished or buggy product. This is also why we have postponed the release of several of our games, such as Halo Infinite or Starfield. But I’m sure these games will be worth the wait because they’re going to be awesome,” Spencer added.
