Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) has kicked the marketing into high gear.
Starfield will be playable for many within days, but its “normal” release isn’t weeks away either, so it’s no wonder we’re hearing more and more about Microsoft’s new hope. Several developers have been interviewed on Bethesda’s website. On Friday, Zachary Wilson took the baton. Wilson previously worked on Frontlines: Fuel of War, Homefront, and Battlefield: Hardline before joining BGS seven years ago. In the interview, he hinted at epic battles to come and abandoned spaceships to be found in remote corners of space.
“There are a couple that I like but want to keep under wraps until after the game releases so that they can surprise players. One that I’ve always loved features a hapless tour guide leading a bunch of excited townies out for a space tour and is very excited to meet a “real captain.” We also have Legendary Ship encounters – these are huge, high-level enemy ships that will dramatically outclass the player through the early part of the game that you have to build up to being able to destroy.
I also really like our derelict ships – we built many handcrafted derelict ships that focus on the tragedies and perils of space travel that the player can explore and discover the stories behind. The best part about these is we solicited stories from people outside the design team for their contributions, so folks who don’t usually get to contribute content to the game were able to put their unique stamp on the game. One of our designers from the modding scene, Kris Takahashi, also built several fascinating ship encounters,” Wilson said.
Microsoft, meanwhile, has quietly halted its $/€1 Game Pass launch promotion, which it recently reduced from one month to fifteen days. It is the Redmond tech giant’s way of ensuring subscribers who might spend at least $/€10/11 on PC and console, respectively, play Starfield. The game will be available from September 1 for those who pay for the more expensive version, while the rest of the players will have to wait until September 6 on Xbox Series, PC, and Game Pass.
