The surprise release date announcement confirms that Xbox Game Pass will get a new free game on August 30.
Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be able to try Call of the Wild: The Angler through their subscription from August 30. A few weeks ago, Microsoft announced the new games coming to Game Pass in the second half of August 2023. However, the announcement did not include Call of the Wild: The Angler.
The announcement of the new Xbox Game Pass games coming in the second half of August 2023 focused on three games in particular, and also hinted at one of the September 2023 offerings.
The games in question were the indie hit Firewatch, an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game called The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. As well as the critically acclaimed indie RPG Sea of Stars, which was released on day one, and the award-winning indie Gris, which joined on September 5.
Microsoft did not mention Call of the Wild: The Angler when it announced the new Xbox Game Pass games coming in the second half of August 2023. It is possible that the game’s release date was not nailed down in time. But this is just speculation. In any case, Call of the Wild: The Angler will be available to Game Pass subscribers from Wednesday, August 30. The PlayStation version will also be available, although it will not be part of PS Plus and will have to be purchased.
For those who are not familiar with the game, Call of the Wild: The Angler is a fishing game from Expansive Worlds. It was first released for PC last year and received a somewhat mixed reception from fans at the time. However, recent impressions of Call of the Wild: The Angler have been positive.
The game has now received a “mostly positive” rating on Steam, based on recent user reviews as opposed to overall reviews.
Unless there are other surprise game announcements, Call of the Wild: The Angler will be the last new Game Pass access for August 2023. Xbox Game Pass subscribers, however, can look forward to September 2023. Next month will be one of the biggest new additions in the history of the subscription service. Coming in September 2023 will be the long-awaited sci-fi RPG Starfield, the Bloodborne-inspired Lies of P. Also coming in September 2023 will be the party game Party Animals, the co-operative shooter Payday 3 and more. Subscribers will have to wait until September to find out what new games are coming to the platform next month but as Call of the Wild: The Angler proves, there’s always a chance for surprise Game Pass additions.
