Volition: Volitioff, Game Over For TheSstudio!

And the timing is funny, as Sony announced just before the studio’s demise that the September offering of PlayStation Plus Essential will include Saints Row Reboot!

Volition announced on LinkedIn that in June, the studio’s parent company Embracer Group announced a restructuring program to remain a leader in the games industry, and that is why they have decided to close Volition with immediate effect after evaluating their strategic and operational goals. Thus, the future of Saints Row will surely continue under different hands (if Embracer even returns to it, seeing how dismally the IP reboot failed, which is why it made it to PlayStation Plus Essential a year after launch…).

“The Volition team has proudly created world-class entertainment for fans around the globe for 30 years. A passion for our community has driven us, and always worked to deliver joy, surprise, and delight. This past June, Embracer Group announced a restructuring program to strengthen Embracer and maintain its position as a leader in the video game industry. As part of that program, they evaluated strategic and operational goals and made the difficult decision to close Volition effective immediately. To help our team, we are working to provide job assistance and help smooth the transition for our Volition family members. We thank our customers and fans worldwide for all the love and support over the years. You will always be in our hearts,” Volition wrote.

The studio is known for several of its games, including 2001’s Red Faction (which featured some destructible environments, a novelty at the time), 2004’s The Punisher, 2006’s Saints Row, which has been almost exclusively the studio’s focus ever since, except two Red Faction titles (Guerrilla – 2009, Armageddon – 2011), and 2017’s Agents of Mayhem.

We thank Volition for their work so far and wish them all the best for a successful future.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
