A new James Bond video game arrives this month, offering fans of the 007 agent isometric stealth and action ahead of Project 007.
A brand new James Bond video game, Cypher 007, is coming to Apple Arcade this month. The legendary superspy of literary and cinematic fame has had a host of licensed games over the decades. The most notable was the iconic GoldenEye 007 for Nintendo 64. This FPS based on the 1995 film of the same name became one of the defining games of the N64 generation.
In November 2020, Hitman and Kane & Lynch games developer IO Interactive announced that it was working on a new James Bond video game, tentatively titled Project 007.
Officially, very little is known about this new Bond title, except that the single-player story will be completely original. It will supposedly tell the origin story of the legendary spy, who is addicted to high-tech gadgets and shaken martinis.
Tilting Point – the publisher of SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off and Star Trek Timelines – will release a new James Bond mobile game, Cypher 007, on Apple Arcade later this month. This top-down isometric action game puts players in the role of 007. The spy works to hunt down the criminal organisation SPECTRE and its leader, Ernst Blofeld. Stealth and combat through several classic James Bond moments and locations as you take down the SPECTRE criminal organisation and its leader.
As the recently released Cypher 007 YouTube trailer shows, players will have to evade SPECTRE forces stealthily. They will also have to fight them with melee attacks. No James Bond gaming experience would be complete without gadgets. 007 uses an electric bullet-powered clock to disable security cameras. He also uses a remote-controlled drone to survey the area in front of him. Cypher 007 also seems to have vehicle segments, as Bond is seen piloting a helicopter to destroy SPECTRE bases. The trailer concludes with the game’s release date, revealing that Cypher 007 will be released on Apple Arcade on September 29.
Both Cypher 007 and IO Interactive’s Project 007 come at a time of transition for the long-running James Bond franchise, with long-time Bond actor Daniel Craig stepping down from the role.
The internet is awash with rumours and speculation about who will take his place in the next 007 film. Until then, Cypher 007 promises to be a promising top-down action/stealth experience to keep avid fans hanging on until more information about Project 007 comes to light.
