Mortal Kombat 1: Johnny Cage Gets A Legendary Action Star Skin – But Why His?! [VIDEO]

Mortal Kombat 1 introduces Jean-Claude Van Damme as Johnny Cage! This ends years of anticipation for a look based on the legendary action movie actor.

Yesterday, Mortal Kombat 1 unveiled the Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage. The majority welcomed the decision. However, many were surprised by what was, in a sense, a “piquant” move…

While NetherRealm Studios continues to announce Mortal Kombat 1 characters, gamers still don’t know much about the game’s skins. Mortal Kombat 1 currently has only three confirmed skins: the Día de Muertos skin for Sub-Zero and the Brazilian funk culture-based skin for Tanya.

The third skin will turn Johnny Cage into Jean-Claude Van Damme, but its release date is unknown.

MK1 showed the first footage of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s skin for Johnny Cage. Ed Boon appeared on the YouTube channel First We Feast’s Hot One. At 5:52 in the video, fans can see a few seconds of Van Damme’s skin. MK1 announced it in May as part of the Premium Edition. Although the skin only appears briefly, players can see Johnny Cage. He wears a look similar to Van Damme, who can be seen in the movie Bloodsport. During the interview, Ed Boon revealed that when the first Mortal Kombat was made, the idea was that there would be a “Van Damme: The Arcade Game.” But the collaboration never materialised. This time, according to Boon, they “hit the bull’s-eye” because, in addition to Van Damme’s role as a skin, the actor will also be providing the voice.

Ironically, Van Damme played Guile, who is mostly the same character as Cage, in Street Fighter, the film adaptation of another legendary fighting game. But never before had he played Cage. So far, six other actors have played Cage. In the first film, it was Linden Ashby, and he was the most memorable. So it’s odd that they didn’t use his skin instead.

In fact, it’s been suggested that Karl Urban could be Cage in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2…

Jean-Claude Van Damme’s appearance in Mortal Kombat 1 ends a long wait. Interestingly, it brings together three famous action movie names in one franchise. Van Damme appears as a skinhead. Gamers may remember that Sylvester Stallone appeared as John Rambo in Mortal Kombat 11. The same game where Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared as the Terminator. For MK1, players are waiting to see what surprises the game has in store for them in the long run regarding characters and skins.
