MOVIE NEWS – The team behind the Sylvester Stallone-led franchise sheds light on the potential for Rambo 6 and the prerequisites for its realization.
Sylvester Stallone, recognized from his gritty appearance in the prior “Rambo: Last Blood”, hasn’t dismissed the possibility of reprising his iconic role.
The film’s producers have aired a hopeful, albeit guarded, perspective on the prospects for Rambo 6. They mentioned the film could be a reality, albeit contingent on specific conditions. Following Stallone’s 1976 blockbuster “Rocky”, he introduced audiences to another legendary character in 1982 – John Rambo, the traumatized and aggressive Vietnam veteran in “First Blood.” Just like his Rocky Balboa persona, Rambo became a cornerstone in Stallone’s repertoire, with the most recent installment, “Rambo: Last Blood”, launching in 2019.
However, according to producers Kevin King-Templeton and Les Weldon, the 2019 outing might not be Rambo’s final battleground. In a conversation with Coming Soon about their upcoming Stallone-fronted action flick “Expendables 4”, the duo touched upon the viability of reviving the renowned character. They shared a collective enthusiasm but highlighted the need to fulfill certain prerequisites. As Weldon elaborated, “When the fans demand it, we’re always the first to dive in. Like with the Expendables, Kevin and I sometimes ponder, ‘Is this the end?’ But then, the demand surfaces, the queries start pouring in.”
It’s conceivable that both fans and financial backers might rally behind another Rambo sequel, prodding the producers to green-light such an endeavor. But whether Stallone headlines the movie remains a question. Aged 77, he might be past his prime for an action-packed role. Although age-reversing tech was applied to Harrison Ford in “Indiana Jones and the Fate of Destiny”, such an endeavor is costly and a Rambo sequel might not be backed by Disney’s deep pockets.
Considering a prequel showcasing a younger Rambo, portrayed by a fresh face, has also surfaced as a feasible route. Stallone has expressed interest in this avenue, suggesting a narrative that delves into Rambo’s formative years and his harrowing stint in Vietnam. The elder Rambo iteration was fittingly bid farewell in “Last Blood”, marking an apt narrative closure. Nonetheless, if the clamor from fans and financiers grows louder, producers seem poised to embark on Rambo 6, breathing new life into the character, one way or another.
