TECH NEWS – A cable can connect all iPhone 15s to an external monitor, but significant limitations exist.
By default, you can’t have a native desktop experience. You can only mirror video to an external monitor, but one developer has implemented a way to connect the phone to a monitor without such limitations on the iPhone 15 Pro. There’s still room for improvement, but as a starting point, this solution will do. @iOS-App_Dev posted a video on Twitter of him connecting the phone to the display using a USB-C-USB-C or USB-C-Thunderbolt cable, as the Apple Studio Display has a USB-C connector. The display can do 5K resolution (5120×2880), and it’s not a poor performer when powered by the phone (the display also has an A13 Bionic CPU).
The developer has used the demo version of infiniteX2P Studio to show that it is possible to exit video mirroring mode to switch to a desktop. A large Google Chrome browser opens in the video, but a couple of other icons are visible in the middle of the screen, and a drop-down menu pops up. Multiple windows can be opened, so iOS 17.0.2 could provide an experience similar to macOS on the new mobile phone.
We didn’t use the word “similar” for nothing because opening a browser causes a lot of lag. Rounded corners cause most of the lag, according to the developer. Since Apple doesn’t officially provide a desktop mode for the iPhone 15, infiniteX2P Studio could be an exciting solution. Meanwhile, rival Samsung allows phones to be connected with a single cable – they call this mode DeX, but since there has been little optimization, it hasn’t caught on (yet?).
As mobile phones become capable of ever more powerful performance, it’s no wonder that we’re at the point where they will essentially be able to be used as computers in a few years. With proper keyboard and mouse support, desktop mode could be widespread.

Not everything is perfect. If I figure out a way to line up the iX2P mouse cursor and iOS cursor, it’s not far from being done. pic.twitter.com/lEmUyVvJ0D
