Quantic Dream: Star Wars: Eclipse “Is Simmering “

The French studio, now part of NetEase (yes, David Cage’s team has been bought by the Chinese tech giant!), says that development of their next game is moving slowly.

Quantic Dream was also present at the Tokyo Game Show. Lisa Pendse, the studio’s vice president of marketing, spoke to IGN about the new Star Wars game, but her response was rather… blunt and to the point (“Can I say it still exists? Because it exists, it’s just not ready. It’s simmering.”). Not much has been said about it by the French studio, known for its games in a highly different genre (Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, Detroit: Become Human).

Rumors suggest it will be a full-fledged action-adventure game, whereas the titles mentioned were just adventure games where action-packed scenes were handled with QTEs (Quick Time Events). According to Pendse, there will be continuous gameplay, and she added that there will be no game over screen, so there will be no die-load previous save (e.g., Resident Evil 4 Remake has one, to give a relatively recent example). For example, they use a similar strategy to what was used in Beyond: Two Souls.

“One of the big focuses we’ve had when we announced Star Wars: Eclipse was to make sure it was clear that this is an action-adventure game that has all of the elements that you would come to expect and want from a Quantic Dream title, which is intricately branching narratives, multiple playable characters. There’s no game over. Anyone can die, anything can happen, and the story continues so that those signatures are still there. But what we’ve been doing is even more ramping up our expertise in the gameplay arena,” Pendse said.

There were also rumors that Star Wars: Eclipse is not due for release until sometime in 2026, so David Cage and his team have at least two more years to develop it, and Disney is not rushing them (LucasFilm Games is not bothering MachineGames with the Indiana Jones game, which Todd Howard will produce). It’s an ambitious game…
