MOVIE NEWS – Marvel Studios’ X-Men MCU reboot is finally getting closer to reality now that the writers’ strike has ended. But how long will fans have to wait?
Now that the X-Men are back in the hands of Marvel Universe, many are wondering when the mutant team will finally be introduced to the MCU. Fans are finally getting a real sign of progress as Marvel Studios is reportedly planning meetings with writers to pitch their interpretation of the X-Men.
Now that the writers strike is over, Marvel Studios is planning to meet with writers to discuss how they will approach the X-Men reboot. However, there is no set timetable for when production will begin or when the movie will be released.
Deadline has reported in full detail what to expect for the future of X-Men. “Marvel will schedule meetings with writers in the fall to brainstorm ideas for the highly anticipated X-Men movie. Inside sources say there’s no urgent need to fill the position, as the movie has yet to be dated and a decision on a writer will likely be made in early 2024.” Furthermore, according to CanWeGetSomeToast, an X-Men reboot is still at least four years away, if not longer, as Kevin Feige plans to introduce X-Men into the MCU after Avengers: Secret Wars.
The last X-Men movie to debut was in 2019, when FOX Studios attempted to bring the Phoenix story back to the big screen with X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The production was not well-received by fans, possibly because the filmmakers wanted the story to be a two-parter, but the studio said it had to be one. By this time, the X-Men were a thing of the past, while most Marvel fans wanted to see what the MCU was cooking up. With Avengers: Endgame was released around this time, fans wanted to see the X-Men in the MCU. Now that the X-Men are in the hands of Marvel Studios, fans are excited to see how they will be integrated into the cinematic universe, knowing the powerful abilities that the mutants of the X-Men have.
By the time this new X-Men movie hits theaters, fans will likely be ready to see another interpretation of the X-Men, knowing how much time has passed since then. Studios have made mistakes in the past by rebooting franchises too quickly, such as Sony releasing Amazing Spider-Man less than five years after Spider-Man 3 hit theaters, or Warner Bros. releasing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice less than five years after The Dark Knight Rises. By the time this new X-Men movie comes out, fans will have had time to catch up on the previous installments and get ready for the next one.
It’s timely because Marvel Studios needs a boost. Since Avengers: Endgame. While the shows and movies released since then have not been bad, they have not been good enough to keep fans interested in what happens next. An X-Men movie may be just what the doctor ordered, considering the themes they touch on. The X-Men can deal with darker themes like death, but with other superhero properties changing, Marvel Studios will have to adapt or die, so they need to do better when it comes to forming opinions about the X-Men.
