No, this time the X doesn’t refer to Twitter (and you don’t have to pay a dollar a year for it), but to something else.
Mighty Boy Studio is developing Babylon X, a fantasy action-RPG. The team members have previously worked at Flying Wild Hog, Saber Interactive, Owlcat Games, My.Games, and are based in Yerevan, Armenia. Set in an alternate history of the ancient world where the Tower of Babel is being built and humanity is facing an impending apocalypse, Babylon X combines the best elements of Western and Eastern storytelling and direction, drawing inspiration from classic JRPGs such as the Final Fantasy series and the Hollywood action-adventure films of the 90s.
Energy, gravity and their connection to ancient magic have been discovered and led to technological advancements in Babylon and Egypt. Players follow Samson, a former prophet turned runaway slave and avenger, and Leykah, a young moon cult priestess, as they band together to face the impending apocalypse of their dying world and search for the answers that may save it. Beyond the epic setting, the developers will focus on delivering a simple human story with an emotional and personal tone for players – during the journey, the protagonists will learn about themselves, find a new purpose in life, and perhaps even fall in love. In addition to the beautifully crafted universe, Babylon X will feature a robust action combat system with tactical elements, a unique magic casting system, and a dynamic semi-open world to explore, solve puzzles, and interact with intelligent NPCs.
While adventuring with both Samson and Leykah, players will have a wide variety of gadgets, weapons, skills, and magic at their disposal, allowing them to choose the play style that best suits them as they navigate the dangers that await them in the Ancient World. The Alternative Ancient World combines the popular imagery of Babylon and Egypt with techno-fantasy. Players will experience a fresh approach to the legend of the Tower of Babel with a unique, non-canonical fantasy tale of the mythical tower. Players will experience a robust action combat and spellcasting system that prioritizes (and rewards) controlling the battlefield, finding enemy vulnerabilities, combining weapons and abilities, and using the environment to dominate. Players will also be introduced to the GraviOrb, a universal tool that allows the use of gravity for exploration and encounters in a dynamic world where events are triggered not only by scripts, but also by the gray morality and choices that players must make. Featuring an original storytelling system with interactive cutscenes, its world defies black and white morality, forcing players to make difficult choices along the way that will have real consequences for the world around them.
Babylon X is being developed for unspecified consoles and PC.
