The number of fans playing Mortal Kombat 1 on PC is apparently less than the number of Mortal Kombat 11 players on the same platform.
According to the latest data, fewer people are playing the recently released Mortal Kombat 1 on PC than the previous instalment, Mortal Kombat 11. The opinion of the MK1 shows a slight decline. Despite the critical acclaim, the player base ran into several problems. These include visual errors. Also, the gameplay bugs and even the controversial microtransactions introduced by the game. All of this seems to have resulted in a bit of a dip in player numbers, if the latest data is to be believed, and players returning to the previous instalment.
Mortal Kombat 11 was initially released in 2019 and was advertised as the final game set in the original Mortal Kombat timeline.
Despite being released nearly five years ago, it still has a reasonably active player base. So much so that it seems to have even overtaken MK1 in terms of recent players.
According to data from SteamDB and SteamCharts, for Mortal Kombat 1 and Mortal Kombat 11, the latter game had more players overall in a week. Based on SteamCharts MK1 analysis, one of the game’s most recent 24-hour highs at the time of writing was 6,820 players. While MK11 had 10,112 players during the same time. According to SteamCharts, peak concurrent players also seem to put MK11 above MK1. It appears that fans currently prefer the previous game over the latest entry on that platform.
This figure is mostly supported by another website, SteamDB, which compares MK1’s player count to MK11’s player count on Steam as well.
MK1’s popularity peaked around release (38,129 players vs MK11’s 35,147 players). The eleventh mainline game still ranks higher in terms of recent top players. Even though MK1 received better reviews than the previous instalments, the problems it ran into probably made people abandon the game for the older ones.
However, these numbers only consider the PC versions of these Mortal Kombat games on Steam. Not counting the number of console players who played the game. These numbers may change over time. More content is planned to be added to Mortal Kombat 1. For example, DLC characters as well as bug fixes. So far, the reception to Mortal Kombat 1 seems to be less enthusiastic than previous games.
