You’ll Never Guess What Sony Is Going To Do To Spice Up Their Earbud Chargers!

TECH NEWS – A brand new Sony patent details the company’s possible intention to build a camera into the charging case of its earbuds.

A new patent from Sony suggests that it plans to build a camera into the charging case of its earbuds in the future. It’s worth noting that this wouldn’t be the first earbuds-related patent filed by Sony.

Sony is best known for its PlayStation line of video game consoles, but the technology giant also makes other technology products, such as television monitors and digital cameras, as well as accessories for its various electronic devices, such as headphones.

Over the years, the company has also filed several patents to simplify the user experience with various Sony devices. This time, based on a new patent, it seems that Sony plans to innovate in a rather unexpected area, specifically in an accessory accessory.

An official patent published on October 26, 2023, details a camera to be built into the charging case of Sony’s wireless earbuds. This camera would probably be a video camera. It would work similarly to smartphones. It would enable mobile streaming and track body movements for the XR. The synopsis explains that it’s intended to be part of a simple, miniature multi-camera setup. It would work when used with a mobile device or computer and a Wi-Fi connection. The camera would be located on the bottom or the lid of the case. Presumably, it would be powered by the battery inside. In theory, thanks to a movable arm, it could be moved to achieve the ideal angle.

One of the images attached to the patent shows in detail how this product could be used. The picture shows a player establishing a connection between the charging bag’s camera and a computer. The latter receives information about the user’s movements, which the camera can track.

The image is returned to the player’s eyes through a visor, which suggests that the product’s intended use is Sony VR peripherals such as the PS VR2.

This isn’t the first time that Sony has filed a patent for a product that tracks body movements in some way. Regardless, this new concept is certainly interesting. If it does come to fruition and is officially released at some point, it will be cool to see what neat things players will be able to do with it.
