Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players have reported issues with sharing the game on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. In addition, the huge file size and meaningless error messages make it difficult for fans…
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 game sharing is not working at the time of this writing. The official release date of the game will not be until November 10th. However, those who pre-ordered Modern Warfare 3 can jump into the single-player campaign right now.
Early access to a game’s campaign is one of the main reasons someone pre-orders a new game. This gives players a week to play through the campaign missions before jumping into multiplayer and zombies when the full release comes out on November 10th.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s campaign missions include rewards for players to use in multiplayer, so even those who normally skip the campaign should consider pre-ordering and playing through the campaign.
This may be trickier for some players. Unfortunately, game sharing for the new COD doesn’t seem to work on PS5 or Xbox. Users across social media have been complaining about not being able to share MW3 at the moment. Gamesharing, for the uninitiated, is a feature available on the PlayStation and Xbox consoles that allow users to share digital copies of games with another person. This is extremely useful for families to play games together without having to buy multiple copies.
You don’t have to look far to see that Modern Warfare 3 game sharing isn’t working, but it’s unknown if this was a deliberate decision on Activision’s part.
Game sharing may not be available at all in MW3. Fans should prepare for this possibility. Although billed as a full-fledged new game, Modern Warfare 3 exists in the “Call of Duty Hub” that houses Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone. Due to this, the game was essentially labelled as a DLC add-on to MW2 rather than a completely separate entity. This resulted in him not even receiving his own platinum trophy. One has to wonder if MW3 game sharing doesn’t work because the game itself is categorized in the same way as Operator skins or COD Points. This means that it is specifically tied to the account that purchased it. Therefore, you would not be eligible for game sharing. However, this is just speculation for now. It’s entirely possible that the MW3 game-sharing problem has a completely different explanation.
Why is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 so huge?
Activision also gave reasons for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s huge file size. Moreover, referring to the “increased amount of content” available on release day. The game’s file size is well over 200GB on consoles and PCs due to the various content installers, including the Warzone files.
Activision’s official Call of Duty Twitter account addresses MW3’s file size with an update for fans. Activision acknowledges that the game’s file size is larger than that of Modern Warfare 2, noting that the increase in file size is due to content supported on release day. This includes the open-world Zombies mode, support for Call of Duty’s new Carry-Forward system, and Warzone map files.
The developers are currently working on optimizing the game files for Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone so that the final installation file size will be smaller than combined Call of Duty titles such as 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone.
Activision reiterates that players can manage their Call of Duty files in the HQ launch menu to reduce the overall file size on the console and PC. For example, players who only want to play MW3’s multiplayer and campaign can uninstall Warzone and certain files. More details on the full launch of MW3 are planned to be released in the coming days through more social media posts and Call of Duty blog posts.
MW3’s file size may hinder console players. But Activision’s latest update offers some hope ahead of next week’s full release. However, it’s likely that the total combined file size will still be well in the 100 to 200 GB range. So those who plan to play Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone should ensure they have enough storage.
As a result, those who want a dedicated game drive for the latest Call of Duty title should consider purchasing an SSD.
What is this “disc required” error, and what can be done about it?
A strange “disc required” error asking for a PS4 copy of last year’s Modern Warfare 2 has prevented some fans from playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s campaign.
The game’s campaign is a direct sequel to last year’s Modern Warfare 2. Missions in MW3’s campaign reward players with items that can be used in game modes and in the series’ popular battle royale, Call of Duty: Warzone.
Some PS5 players are experiencing a “disc required” error that prevents them from starting the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 campaign.
When the problem occurs, a message appears on the screen asking players to insert a copy of Modern Warfare 2 for PS4. Shortly after the early access version of the game launched, the official Call of Duty updates social media account said that the team was investigating the issue. The social media account quickly addressed the issue and announced an update that is now available. To activate the update, players must restart the game.
Interestingly, the initial post includes a link that directs fans to a task management app called Trello. This board allows fans to see what issues the team is currently working on and what stage the various patches are at. There are sections for known multiplayer issues, resolved multiplayer issues, known campaign issues, and resolved campaign issues. The “disc required” error has since been moved to the “resolved campaign issues” tab.
#MW3 is almost here. In preparation, we would like to provide an update on file sizes which are larger than last year 👇
This is due to the increased amount of content available Day 1, including open world Zombies, support for item carry forward from #MW2, as well as map files…
