MOVIE NEWS – A Star Wars movie that was on dubious feet from the beginning has just received the coup de grace from Lucasfilm…
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously confirmed that he will lead a new production within the Star Wars universe. However, the MCU boss recently revealed that his Lucasfilm project has been cancelled.
A lot of exciting Star Wars projects have been cancelled over the years, leading Disney to ask Lucasfilm not to announce any SW productions that are still in such early stages of development.
Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron, announced for 2020, was one of the hyped Star Wars projects that were cancelled.
Feige’s Star Wars project was also rumoured to have been shelved. He had little chance to advance. However, fans now know for sure what happened to the mysterious project. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the Marvel premiere, Feige was asked if his Star Wars movie was still in the works. He answered with a simple “No”.
Fans are disappointed to hear the news. After all, many hoped that Feige could bring some of his filmmaking magic to the struggling Star Wars franchise. The Marvel Studios president’s Star Wars project was announced more than four years ago. Other than confirming that it exists, no further details have been released. After not getting any updates for such a long time, it’s probably no surprise that the project didn’t materialize.
Despite the troubling signs, Star Wars fans remained confident that Feige would lend his talent and creativity to a franchise that had seen better days.
After the controversial sequel trilogy, the once devoted Star Wars fan base became increasingly fragmented. Some fans have simply given up on the legendary sci-fi universe. However, Disney still has a handful of promising live-action Star Wars movies. The production of these will start soon. Logan director James Mangold is making a film adaptation of Dawn of the Jedi. Dave Filoni is directing a film that covers the stories surrounding The Mandalorian, the Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. Finally, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s movie focuses on Rey in the events after Episode IX.
The Mandalorian and Andor won back many fans. And Disney is now approaching the franchise in a more varied way. Projects like The Mandalorian evoke the exciting, lighthearted fun seen in previous Star Wars films. Meanwhile, Andor brings a more dramatic, political thriller-type atmosphere to the Star Wars universe. With Disney’s huge wallet and commitment to keeping the franchise alive, fans have good reason to be excited about the future of Star Wars.
